HealthNet TPO in Afghanistan aims to improve the health status of the people in Afghanistan by supporting the local communities and the Government of Afghanistan in the development of a sustainable health care system.  HealthNet TPO is working in Afghanistan since 1994, implementing integrated health projects managed mainly by national staff and supported technically by expatriate staff from the headquarter office. HealthNet TPO Afghanistan is providing Primary Health Care, Mental Health and psychosocial services, fighting malaria and supporting Mother & Child Health Care in terms of providing training for Community Midwifes and to conduct operation research. Health Net TPO is currently implementing projects in 22 provinces and the major program it implements are  BPHS/EPHS in three provinces,  CME,  public-private partnership, nutrition, Mental Health and Psychosocial program through a community system strengthening approach.

• Work with individuals, groups and communities to improve mental health
• Encourage clients to discuss emotions and experiences
• Examine issues including substance abuse, aging, bullying, anger management, careers, depression, relationships, LGBTQ issues, self-image, stress and suicide
• Work with families
• Help clients define goals, plan action and gain insight
• Develop therapeutic processes
• Refer clients to psychologists and other services
• Take a holistic (mind and body) approach to mental health care

General Responsibilities:

1) Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients’ treatment.

2) Encourage clients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives, and help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships.

3) Guide clients in the Development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems.

4) Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.

5) Counsel clients and patients, individually and in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.

6) Collect information about clients through interviews, observation, and test.

7) Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.

8) Refer patients, clients or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.

9) Monitor client’s use of medications.

10) Run workshops and courses about mental health issues.

• Degree of Institute in Counseling approved by MoPH.
• Working experience as Psycho-Social Counselor of 1-2 years
• Good English language skills. Computer skills are preferable.
• Flexible mentality
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
