The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the most inclusive intergovernmental platform in the Asia-Pacific region. The Commission promotes cooperation among its 53 member States and 9 associate members in pursuit of solutions to sustainable development challenges. ESCAP is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations.

The ESCAP secretariat supports inclusive, resilient and sustainable development in the region by generating action-oriented knowledge, and by providing technical assistance and capacity-building services in support of national development objectives, regional agreements, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Eligibility Criteria For United Nations ESCAP Recruitment 2022 | UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific

UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Jobs Responsibilities

Economic and/or sector analysis:

• Collects, evaluates, interprets, analyses specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information obtained from a variety of sources including research and analysis of emerging issues and trends in sustainable transport development with particular focus on the utilization of energy-efficient and environmentally sound transport options.
• Maintains databases and programmes for database management related to sustainable transport development with particular focus on the utilization of energy-efficient and environmentally sound transport options.
• Assists in the design, testing, operation and modification of econometric models related to sustainable transport development.
• Prepares briefing notes, inputs to speeches and similar material on economic or sector issues related to sustainable transport development in a form that is meaningful to non-specialists.
• Prepares first drafts of the sector, country or regional components of analytical studies on sustainable transport development issues and policies.
• Assists in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings, seminars, etc linked to projects and activities related to sustainable transport development.

Intergovernmental support:

• Prepares inputs for reports related to transport development to intergovernmental bodies.
• Follows intergovernmental meetings and prepares summary reports and similar material.
• Prepares inputs to statements by members of the Bureau and Secretariat staff to such meetings.
• Assists in the organization of panels, round tables etc. on sustainable transport development issues for inter-governmental processes.

Technical cooperation:

• Compiles and analyses the data and other information necessary for the preparation of technical cooperation project proposals in the area of economic development related to sustainable transport development.
• Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects including projects proposals related to sustainable transport development.
• Contributes to the preparation of material for the approval of regional, country or sector technical cooperation projects.
• Monitors, backstops, and assesses the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects related to sustainable transport development.

General:

• Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s services.
• Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally.
